Chipping Away

Not only did we have the branches from the windstorm's wrath to deal with, but we had a neighbor top the small grove of trees behind the house to ward off future windstorm damage.

That created this. I was glad that the chipper was finally fixed so this pile could get ground up and the chips spread under this same grove and also because it was blocking my view of the chickens from my craft room. Fire it up, boys!
Our friend, Larry, came over to help. Yesterday was the 5th anniversary of the second time Larry was shot in the line of duty. I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to have been able to take this photo of him today -- alive, happy, and giving.

The Big Guy demonstrates all proper safety measures.

Our neighbors, The Jerrys, loaned us their Green Machine so we could chip directly into it for easier hauling.

The first pile went to the chickens. It kept them busy all day.

The next load went around the coop where it's become quite muddy. This won't last forever, but it sure is nice for now!

The third load went to refurbish the chips out front. What you can't see (or hear) in this photo is The Big Guy "instructing" me on unloading the chips. It's probably better that way.
