Happening Things

I told you things were going to start happening around here, and so they have. While wintery weather persists in much of the country, here it has been more spring-like of late. And as anyone who suffers the whims of Mother Nature as a gardener knows, you have to take advantage of it when you can. Come with me. Let's look around...

Hey, those weren't there before! You're right, this is a new "flower ditch" I made last week, finally transplanting some daylilies a friend gave me years ago but, until now, had been living in a less-than-optimal spot. I hope they will like their new home by the Hawthouse* and will show me what color they are.

Moving into the Hawthouse*, we find a delightful little strawberry bloom. This showed itself just today, and I may or may not have let out a little "squee!" when I found it.

Meanwhile, out in the Big Garden, the newest peach tree is in the pink.

Tater Bags! We heard good things about these and decided to give them a try this year. Four are planted with Red Norland and four with Yukon Gold. Having learned the hard way in the past about new garden innovations, we did plant some taters in the ground as well.

This photo was taken mere seconds before I tugged one too many times on the hose and broke the spigot at the house. My exact thoughts were like this, "Okay, be careful...slooowwww...a little more...just a lit----oh, !#$%^&" Pardon me. I'm very passionate when I garden, and it just slipped out.

Not very pretty, is it? Yeah, newly planted gardens really aren't much to look at, but just imagine the fluffy tops of a variety of carrots here.

Pea Patch Part I. Some poles for the pole peas (duh), and my homemade fence-wire-pole trellises for the bush peas. In about 3 weeks, I'll make another patch much like this one. I am determined to keep up with successive plantings of all crops this year. Determined.
