Oasis

The other day, while I slept the sleep of a night-shifter, The Big Guy did something amazing. He hooked up the propane green hut heater. Oh, yes he did! See? Here it is:

And here are actual flames. By the time I awoke and was instructed to go check the green hut, it was like a tropical oasis right there in the middle of our soggy field. I suddenly had a hankering for a drink with a little umbrella in it.

And if you ever doubt how much plants love a little heat, I submit for your review the following:

I planted these three days prior to taking this photo. That is not a typo. Three days.

The other babies seemed to perk up a little, too. The spinach finally sprouted, and there is a tray of kale somewhere down below that also sprouted in record time.

The following day, I put on my greenhouse clothes (someday I'll explain that) and spent a lovely afternoon in the balmy confines of the green hut planting tiny pots of hollyhock, calendula, columbine, and gaillardia seeds while rain pattered on the roof. I cannot begin to explain what a lovely thing that is.
